People all over social media are gobsmacked after learning how to correctly wash broccoli after doing it wrong "their whole lives".
Making sure to thoroughly wash your fruits and vegetables before preparing them is vital for getting rid of any bacteria and ensuring they're safe to eat.
Rinsing them in a colander using water from the tap is usually sufficient, but there's a better way to do it with broccoli to really make sure you've cleaned it properly.
The Mirror reports that TikTok user Sidney Riaz shared the technique on the video app, admitting that until recently he'd been washing it the wrong way too.
In the clip, he said: "Here's something I didn't know until I was in my 30s. Broccoli should be rinsed from the bottom."
He turns the tap on and holds the stalk of broccoli under it, where the water splashes off the top and runs off the sides.
Then, Sidney flips the stalk upside down and puts it back under the tap so that the water flows through the vegetable instead of bouncing off the top.
This makes it easier for the water to go inside all the crevices of the broccoli to make sure there's nothing hiding in between all the branches.
Sidney's video has been viewed a whopping 1.3 million times, and has amassed over 138,000 likes.
In the comments, people were in disbelief at this small yet effective change that makes washing the vegetable much more effective.
One person said: "I actually didn’t know this hahah I always cut it up and soak."
"Well I've just found out and I'm in my 40s ffs," commented another.
"You're really changing my broccoli game [with] these discoveries," added a third.
And a fourth commented: "How just how have we all been living so dang in the dark!??? I’m amazed every time another thing we didn't know."
