Paul O'Grady fans have been left in tears as the late comedian's final TV appearance aired following his death last year. Paul died aged 67 from sudden cardiac arrhythmia in March 2023. The comedian's final series of ITV1's Great Elephant Adventures aired on Sunday 7th April, which saw Paul visit Thailand's biggest wildlife hospital and communicate with elephants in Laos.
Emotional fans took to social media throughout the episode to share how Paul's appearance had affected them. "Just 28 minutes (ads excluded) left of the last piece to camera Paul made and I'm here for every minute," one wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. Another said: "I still can't believe he's not here.
What a wonderful man he was. "Even the Elephants knew just how special Paul was and the empathy he had for animals and it's a special memory that, thankfully, they'll never forget," one viewer tweeted. Another said: "Really in bits watching the end and knowing we won't get another series." Meanwhile, other viewers revealed that they were in floods of tears, with one writing: "A sobbing mess right now." A lover of animals, Paul heads to elephant rescue centres during his travels across Thailand and Laos for the two-part documentary, hoping to do his bit to help the plummeting elephant population.
The comedian died "peacefully" according to his widower Andre Portasio, who recently opened up about the star's sudden death. Speaking to The Mirror, Andre said: "He left to get some tea, and I heard this loud bang. But because the house is big and old, I didn’t think of anything at first.
