Ellise Shafer Britain’s most beloved bear, Paddington, is set to take the stage in an upcoming musical adaptation. “Paddington: The Musical” (working title) is now in development from Sonia Friedman Productions, Studiocanal and Eliza Lumley Productions on behalf of Universal Music U.K. The musical is being adapted from Michael Bond’s iconic books, as well as the award-winning film series produced by Studiocanal and Heyday Films.
McFly’s Tom Fletcher is penning music and lyrics, with Olivier Award-winning playwright Jessica Swale (“Nell Gwynn,” “Blue Stockings”) writing the script. Luke Sheppard (“& Juliet,” “The Little Big Things”) is set to direct. Workshops are currently taking place, and the plan is to premiere the show in the U.K.
