A Florida man who allegedly shot a burglar as he apparently begged for his life is facing an attempted murder charge. Corthoris Jenkins, 28, was playing video games in his North-Miami Dade apartment Tuesday when Xavier West allegedly broke into the efficiency unit, the Miami Herald reported.

A Florida woman was in critical condition Thursday in a Miami hospital, being treated for second- and third-degree burns, three days after a man allegedly poured gasoline on her and use a cigarette lighter to set her on fire, according to a report. Florida sheriff’s deputies released body-camera footage of a deadly shooting in which a police officer was injured and a suspect killed during a chase over the weekend. The chase began around 4 p.m.

A car chase in Florida led to a harrowing rescue Thursday when the fleeing driver crashed into a pond with two children in the back seat.   Deputies attempted to stop the car over a window tint violation on U.S. Highway 19 in Pasco County at 3:15 p.m., but the suspect drove into the nearby Ja-Mar mobile home park, passing several residents and hitting a dead end before losing control.

A Florida man who strapped a light pole to the roof of his car on a highway has been arrested on charges of grand theft, authorities said. Douglas Allen Hatley, 71, was pulled over on a Tampa roadway on Monday after another driver reported that a maroon Toyota Camry was hauling a metal pole – nearly double the length of the car – on its roof, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
