Outlander star Alexander Vlahos has pulled back the curtain a little more on his enigmatic character Allan Christie.
The Welsh actor, who plays Tom Christie's son in the hit show, previously revealed that Allan will be heavily involved this season and that he has a "beautiful, complicated, nuanced, very dark storyline" that will "creep on all the way until the end of season six".
Speaking in an interview with Hello! Magazine for their Outlander Insider series, the Versailles and Merlin star spoke about some key moments his character has faced this season already, which will give hints at his future plotline.
He said: "In episode one, when I read it I felt that the horn thing was a nice moment, but I thought it was quite insignificant, I didn’t see the big picture.
"But having watched the premiere, I thought, 'Oh! This is the catalyst, the start of the snowball moment.' It’s nice to know that Allan, rightly or wrongly, is the instigator."
The star added that Allan is much more complex than people realise with the younger man having to be the man of the house while Tom was in Ardsmuir. This has developed a strong protective feeling towards the only "possession" he had – his sister.
Alexander added: "He cared for her too much probably, and when his dad comes back from prison, he’s knocked down again. He’s just a boy who is getting in his dad’s way…"
This is clearly shown in his inability to protect his sister from his father's wrath, meaning he can only watch on as Tom punished her.
Stating that the role was a "joy to play", he added that all three Christies were "incredibly flawed".
Describing his character as clearly "conflicted and terrorised", Alexander thanked the show's bosses for allowing him to offer a nuanced take on

It can be fascinating to see how spin-off shows evolve from their original source material. Take “Better Call Saul” on AMC taking off from “Breaking Bad.” Some even consider the former to be as potent and captivating as the latter, if not more so.

Sharareh Drury administratorThere’s no shortage of drama or conflict on “Outlander.” Two characters of the series who know that all too well are Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin). After a tumultuous fifth season that included traumatic assaults, a kidnapping, a near-death experience by hanging, and the low rumblings of the American Revolution, one would hope Bree and Roger could catch a break heading into Season 6.It’s wishful thinking, perhaps. In previewing what’s to come this season, Skelton and Rankin both agree that Bree and Roger’s story may have found some calm — but that’s within the eye of a troubling storm.Variety spoke with Skelton and Rankin to talk about Brianna and Roger’s goals now that they’ve settled to live in the past, how the two are processing past trauma, and what fans can expect for the short-but-sure to be lively sixth season.
