Oscars 2021: Glenn Close makes history as she loses eighth Oscar nod with no wins

It has only been onwards and upwards for Taylor Swift! The singer-songwriter on Tuesday made history as she became the first female, non-UK artist to be awarded with the Global Icon honour at the Brit Awards 2021. Only three artistes namely Sir Elton John, David Bowie and Robbie Williams have been awarded this honour.

Glenn Close appears to have taken her eighth Oscar loss well as she was seen showing off her dance moves, shaking her hips to Da Butt last night.The 74 year old made Oscars history after she missed out on an award for the eighth time at the 93rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday 25 April. She became the first female and the second person ever to gain the unwanted record, with the only other person to achieve eight Oscar snubs being late British actor Peter O’Toole.

During this year's ceremony, which took place at LA's Union Station where trains still ran during the proceedings, Sir Anthony Hopkins also won the Oscar for best actor, defeating the late Chadwick Boseman, while Daniel Kaluuya took the title of best supporting actor.

Oscars while British talent swept up several major awards. Anthony Hopkins was named best actor for his role in The Father as an elderly man dealing with memory loss while Daniel Kaluuya won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his Black Panther movie Judas and the Black Messiah.

Parasite as the Academy Awards’ reigning champion have been unveiled, some of which are yet to be released in the UK. Eight films in total were nominated in the category, but it’s worth noting that 2021 is the final year before a rule change officially sets the nominee count at 10.
