'Parasite' picked up four Academy Awards at this month's prize-giving ceremony

Oscar-winning Parasitedirector Bong Joon Ho said Wednesday the film's "biggest pleasure and the most significant meaning" to him is that it succeeded even though the audiences might feel uncomfortable with his explicit description of bitter wealth disparity in modern society.Bong's dark comic thriller about two families on the opposite ends of South Korea's social spectrum is a history-making film.

After South Korean thriller Parasite bagged Best Picture and three additional Oscars at the 92nd Academy Awards, director Bong Joon-ho was ready for a night of drinking and merriment, as he expressed several times during his acceptance speeches. After all, he had just made history alongside the film's talented cast. Bong and company packed up after the event dissipated and headed out into LA's Koreatown for a late-night celebration at the restaurant Soban.

The U.S. television audience for the 2020 Oscars fell to an all-time low for a ceremony that brought big wins for South Korean satire Parasite but was criticized by reviewers as long and haphazard.

With his brilliant film Parasite, the filmmaker made history at Oscars 2020 as not just the first South Korean movie but the first non-English language film to ever take home the coveted Oscar for Best Picture. Parasite also won the Academy Award for Directing for Bong, International Feature Film and Original Screenplay for Bong and Kwak Sin-ae.

The South Korean thriller landed the top prize on Hollywood's big night, taking a total of four honours, including Best Director for Bong Joon Ho. It was also named Best International Feature, and Best Original Screenplay, an accolade Bong shared with Han Jin Won.
