Greater Manchester Police's organised crime task force has cracked a ring of violent criminals that were importing drugs into the country by hiding them in sweet packets and bottles of soft drinks. After arresting the Bolton-based drug traffickers, they also found rifles and other weapons.
Yesterday (January 22), the Serious Organised Crime Group of specialist detectives, alongside other officers, carried out a number of warrants across Greater Manchester, all at addresses related to individuals thought to be involved in a vast criminal network. This network stretched across the Atlantic, importing Class A drugs, including methamphetamine, from America.
Working with customs officials on both sides of the pond, police tracked packages containing illicit drugs to addresses across Bolton. Then, this morning (January 23), these specialist officers executed two warrants that led to the arrest of two men, aged 29 and 43, on suspicion of conspiracy to import Class A controlled substances, as well as money laundering offences.

Late last night (Monday 22 January), in connection with this operation, police also arrested a 33 year old man at Bolton police station, and a 36 year old man at his home address in Horwich.
Searches of associated properties lead police to recover thousands of pounds of cash, weapons including rifles, knives and nunchucks. A large quantity of methamphetamine was also recovered.
Methamphetamine, often called crystal meth or given a nickname like "ice", is a stimulant that is often smoked ina glass pipe or injected. While the drug is more common in the US, public health bodies in the UK have warned of its increasing usage.
