Oprah - what she learned from her ‘daughter’ during quarantine

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) – Oprah Winfrey is set to host a two-night town hall to discuss systemic racism in America and the current state of a country which has seen mass protests since the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in Minnesota. Titled “OWN Spotlight: Where Do We Go From Here?,” the town hall will be simulcast on OWN and all of its parent company Discovery’s 18 other networks.

Oprah Winfrey is hosting a discussion with Black thought leaders, artists and activists regarding the civil unrest across American in response to the murder of George Floyd next week as part of a two-night event that will be simulcast across 19 different Discovery-owned networks.

As protests continue throughout the world in response to the tragic death of George Floyd, Oprah Winfrey wants to promote a conversation about racism in America.

Oprah Winfrey on Friday broke her silence about the killing ofGeorge Floyd, assuring his death would not be in vain. In a statement posted to social media, which included an illustration ofFloyd,Winfrey said she has not said anything until this moment about the events that transpired Monday inMinnesota because she was having a hard time processing what she saw: a black man, held down by police officers as one white officer knelt on his neck.Floyd would die from his injuries.

Oprah Winfrey has pledged to provide $12 million (£9 million) in coronavirus relief to U.S. cities and towns she has called home.

Oprah Winfrey is giving grants to the cities she's called home through her $12 million coronavirus relief fund. She announced Wednesday that her Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation will donate money to organizations dedicated to helping underserved communities in Chicago; Baltimore; Nashville, Tennessee; Milwaukee; and Kosciusko, Mississippi, where she was born.
