Opera North is a leading UK arts organisation and national opera company based in Leeds.
Rooted in the north of England and striving to create extraordinary experiences, every day, their aim is to make bold, innovative, ambitious work and share it in new and exciting ways.
Firm in their belief that opera is for everyone, Opera North champions diversity in their artists, repertoire and audiences. Their award winning productions tour stages all over the country, as well as major international festivals.
The Lowry in Salford, Greater Manchester, is thrilled to be hosting a collection of three incredible Opera North productions this March; Rigoletto, Alcina and Carmen.
Each will see a classic opera catapulted into the 21st century, re-imagined for modern audiences to reflect the experiences of people today.
With their own vision, messages and themes, this impressive collection of operas will be showing from March 9 until March 12.
Each opera offers something entirely new. Alcina is commended for being Opera North's first fully sustainable production, whilst Carmen spotlights its classic narrative through a feminist lens, and Rigoletto explores, as its director explains: “How a Black man experiences living in a predominantly white society”.
Focus on accessibility is at the centre of this collection of performances, with each opera being subtitled and Carmen will be BSL interpreted.
Those under 30 will be able to sign up to Opera North's incredible under 30's scheme, which enables young people to snap up tickets to Opera North productions for a mere £10.
Whether you've never experienced opera before, or you're already a convert - each of these shows offers something enjoyable for all audiences.
