EXCLUSIVE: After working with Noah Hawley on the fifth season of his Emmy-winning drama Fargo, which just debuted last week, David Rysdahl has solidified his place in his FX family with a series regular role in his Alien prequel series, Deadline can exclusively reveal.
Details as to his character are under wraps. But Rysdahl joins a cast that includes Sydney Chandler as the meta-human Wendy, Alex Lawther as soldier CJ, Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier, a CEO, Essie Davis as Dame Silvia, Adarsh Gourav as Slightly, and Kit Young as Tootles. Announced as joining prior to Rysdahl was Timothy Olyphant, and while his role has not been confirmed, Deadline hears he’ll be playing Kirsh, a synth who acts as a mentor and trainer for Wendy, a character with the body of an adult, but the brain and consciousness of a child.
The new Alien series, exec produced by Ridley Scott, is set in a time period before Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and is the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future. Production began in Thailand July 19, four days after the start of the actors strike, continuing for more than a month thereafter, only with members of the cast affiliated with British trade union Equity. All scripts had been completed prior to the May kickoff of the WGA strike, and production is expected to resume in Bangkok as soon as January.
Over the summer, Rysdahl was seen portraying Los Alamos chemist Donald Hornig in Christopher Nolan’s historical epic Oppenheimer, which grossed over $950 million worldwide. Prior to that, he starred alongside Havana Rose Liu in the 20th/Hulu thriller No Exit, and in Edson Oda’s Sundance prize winner Nine Days, released by Sony Pictures Classics. Additional TV credits

White Noise) and Greta Gerwig (Ladybird) have addressed the backlash surrounding Barbie claiming it to be an “anti-man” movie. The married couple co-wrote and co-created Barbie, which was released in July 2023 and stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.Making more than $1billion at the box office and receiving critical acclaim for its story of the female experience, sexism, misogyny and empowerment among women, it quickly became one of the most talked-about films of the decade. However, it did receive some backlash, with some arguing that it was highly cynical, critical and demeaning of men, with Gosling’s character, Ken, seemingly spending his existence trying to impress Barbie, played by Robbie. In an interview with 60 Minutes, via CBS News, Baumbach and Gerwig discuss the criticism. When asked about the response by some viewers that the movie is “anti-man”, the Marriage Story director said: “I felt men could take it, I mean come on.”Barbie’s director and co-writer Gerwig also weighed in saying: “The movie is meant to be a big-hearted thing, even though it’s poking fun at everyone.”The Little Women director also defended Gosling’s character saying: “I mean this sounds so silly to say out loud but I love Ken.
There have been quite a few hot takes revolving around “Barbie.” This is just something that happens to any film that turns into a surprisingly massive hit and the biggest film (financially) of 2023. But with “Barbie,” it’s also a film that invites all sorts of debate surrounding its social message, which has been twisted by lots of different folks in an attempt to claim the film isn’t just feminist but it’s also “anti-men.” READ MORE: ‘Barbie’: Noah Baumbach Thought The Film Was A “Terrible Idea” When Greta Gerwig Signed Up For It In a new interview with “60 Minutes,” “Barbie” co-writer Noah Baumbach talked about the film being perceived as “anti-men.” And not surprising at all, the writer, who co-wrote the film alongside director Greta Gerwig, doesn’t think his film has some sort of anti-man agenda.
The much-praised Scissorhands: A Musical Tribute is a success!
Fargo franchise is what gardeners would call a volunteer tree: sprung from a robust film, it has most certainly taken on a life of its own.Five seasons in, it has become the inimitable vision of writer Noah Hawley and his murderously affectionate take on the American Midwest. A witty, mischievous raconteur, Hawley delivers his (usually) cop-based yarns through ordinary lives that end up being anything but.
While you have names like Weiss and Benioff (“Game Of Thrones”), the Duffer Brothers (“Stranger Things”), and Noah Hawley (“Fargo”), there aren’t that many writers/directors/showrunner auteurs in television. However, one recent pair to surface is Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the creators of “Westworld.” In the middle of their run on HBO’s “Westworld,” the pair signed a lucrative deal with Amazon Studios.
Emma Stone, Noah Kahan, Sarah Sherman. One of these things is not like the others. And that explains Sherman’s appeal in a nutshell, as the zany comic takes over this week’s Saturday Night Live promo clip.

Alison Herman TV Critic The typical season of “Fargo” starts at a simmer. Thanks to the famous opening disclaimer (“at the request of the survivors”; “out of respect for the dead”), borrowed wholesale from the Coen Brothers’ original masterpiece, the audience knows violence is in the offing. In translating “Fargo” into an anthology series, an interpretive exercise that now spans five different installments over nearly a decade, creator Noah Hawley has stuck to this structure.
