Nick Jonas on Landing His First Leading Role in Robert Schwartzman’s ‘The Good Half’ and His ‘Wicked’ Movie Audition

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter No, it’s not a Mad Lib generated to excite kids who grew up in the early 2000s: a Jonas brother is starring in a movie directed by Michael Moscovitz — aka Anne Hathaway’s love interest in “The Princess Diaries.” Nick Jonas and filmmaker Robert Schwartzman (as the guitar-playing, car-fixing, M&M-eating heartthrob is known in real life) have been friends since the early days of their fame. They met when Schwartzman’s band Rooney, which gained prominence after appearing on another early-aughts staple “The O.C.”, opened on tour for Jonas Brothers. But they never officially worked together until they collaborated on the indie “The Good Half,” a comedic drama that premieres this week at Tribeca Festival. It’s the third time directing for Schwartzman, who is more often behind the camera since “The Princess Diaries” and in 2018 co-founded the distribution company Utopia.

‘Aspects of Love’ Review: Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Torpid, Semi-Forgotten Musical Gets an Unconvincing West End Revival

David Benedict “Will someone kindly tell me what on Earth has happened?” Well, quite. That’s the that line Michael Ball’s George sings when surveying the absurdity before him, including the body of his passed-out partner Rose (Laura Pitt-Pulford) who has just been shot by his jealous nephew Alec (Jamie Bogyo). Judging by the unexpected laughter that greeted it on opening night, others are framing his question more widely while witnessing this revival — that’s not the right term — of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1989 musical “Aspects of Love.” For that scene and the whole queasy, quasi-romantic story to work, you need emotional truth. But despite the cast’s sincere efforts there is scarcely a speck of that for them to work with. In the sung-through score (no bookwriter is credited; the text is the work of lyricists Don Black and Charles Hart) they are left to sing rambling expository dialogue at one another and emote, giving audiences little to connect with. Lloyd Webber can and does lace lines from the show’s two big tunes, “Love Changes Everything” and “Seeing Is Believing,” through his score all night, but it doesn’t compensate for the lack of believable drama. And that’s before you get to the sexual politics.

Nicole Scherzinger takes inspiration from Little Mermaid with 'sea-themed' concert gown

It seems like American singer Nicole Scherzinger couldn’t get enough of the Disney inspiration as she took to the stage to perform at the historic Coronation concert. The former Pussycat Dolls lead singer performed her own rendition of Disney's Mulan theme song, but her Disney inspo didn’t stop there, with her gown giving serious Little Mermaid vibes. The sea-themed blue gown was made up of a deep royal blue velvet skirt that draped from her hips and trailed onto the stage, as the risqué asymmetrical skirt skimmed one hip and dropped below the other. There was more blue velvet across her bust, draped in a twisted style that was reminiscent of traditional royal gowns. But it was her bodice section that was giving a major ‘underwater’ theme. The sheer light blue panelling across her midsection was covered in a repeated pattern that looked almost like coral and swept across her body between her skirt and bust, showing off her incredible figure.

freshly crowned King Charles III, 74, and Queen Camilla, 75.The concert, which was attended by more than 20,000 royal watchers — Brits and non-Brits alike — featured Scherzinger as one of the openers, and she stunned with her gorgeous vocals.During the performance of the song first made famous by Christina Aguilera and Lea Salonga, the stunning 44-year-old American singer wore a royal-blue colored dress with a sheer, embroidered bodice and was dripping in diamonds — but it was nothing compared to her first outfit of the day. While doing press earlier in the day, the former Pussycat Dolls member wore a skintight, black leather dress with gold chained straps and chunky black platform heels. The stunning brunette wore her hair in a half-up, half-down look and sizzled with glowing makeup — and a saucy slit cut up to there. “I have met Charles before,” Scherzinger revealed to BBC Radio 2 ahead of the concert on Sunday.
