During a televised debate on Sunday night, Democratic candidate Marcus Flowers accused House Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of being at least partially responsible for the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, citing as evidence Greene’s false and oft-repeated stance that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.

Gates Foundation contributes $1.2 billion to the fight to eradicate polio worldwide

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced $1.2 billion on Sunday for efforts to eradicate polio worldwide.  Polio was paralyzing tens of thousands of children a year in dozens of countries around the world just a few decades ago, but the virus is now only endemic in Pakistan and Afghanistan.  Part of the success in eradicating the virus is due to the nearly $5 billion that the Gates Foundation has contributed to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.  This 1964 microscope image made available by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows damage from the polio virus to human spinal cord tissue.  (Dr.

Shows Like ‘Maisel,’ ‘And Just Like That’ Push New York City Production Into Post-COVID Expansion

Gregg Goldstein No one ever said filming in New York City was easy, especially during a pandemic. Just ask the showrunners behind Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” or the producer of Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming HBO Max limited series “Full Circle.” “We had an incident yesterday on our set in Queens: a crazy person grabbed a grip by the hair and was trying to take a swing at her. Thank God she got away and he ran off,” “Circle” producer Jonathan Filley said in late September. “And we just had a car rear-end another car, which ran into our electric truck. … There’s a lot of mental instability in the city these days.” This wouldn’t be a shock to “Maisel” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino or her fellow showrunner, Daniel Palladino. who had a hazardous Washington Square Park shoot in spring 2021. “There had been a lot of anti-police protests, and weirdos were encroaching on our set,” Palladino says. “There were no police, and we finally bolted. We had our own security, but there was a group of film students who were keeping an eye on us.” (“And our purses!” Sherman-Palladino chimes in.) “They were chasing some people off, and we realized our de facto security was a bunch of 18-year-olds at NYU.”

New York's 'unconstitutional' concealed carry law to remain in effect pending review, appeals court rules

An appeals court temporarily allowed New York to continue enforcing the recently enacted Concealed Carry Improvement Act while an appeal from the state's attorney general makes its way through the courts.  New York's legislature passed the bill earlier this year after the Supreme Court struck down New York's old laws for permits to carry handguns in public, which required that individuals show an unusual threat to their safety for a license.  A federal judge ruled last week that some provisions of the new law are unconstitutional, specifically one that required applicants to turn over their social media information and a ban on carrying guns in certain public places, such as transportation systems and businesses that serve alcohol.  A sign zip-tied to a utility pole at the intersection of East 47th St and Avenue of The Americas declares Times Square is a gun free zone, Tuesday Sept. 6, 2022.

Bret Baier presses ex-CIA intel officer standing by Hunter Biden 'Russian info' letter: 'It wasn't true'

Former Central Intelligence Agency officer David Priess defended being a signatory on a letter with more than two dozen other current and former intel agents and experts who claimed the New York Post's Hunter Biden laptop bombshell looked like a "Russian information operation." In October 2020, the Post broke the story about how then-Wilmington computer shopkeeper John-Paul Mac Isaac came into possession of the laptop first son Hunter Biden left at his store near Trolley Square.  A copy of the hard drive was provided to the FBI and another to former New York City Republican Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. "It is for all these reasons that we write to say that the arrival on the US political scene of emails purportedly belonging to Vice President Biden’s son Hunter, much of it related to his time serving on the Board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation," Priess and fellow signatories wrote in-part.
