Man Beats 21-Year-Old New Yorker While Hurling Anti-Gay Slurs

New York Daily News.Given the use of anti-gay slurs, and the seeming randomness of the attack, the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the attack.Police have released a photo of the alleged assailant and are asking for the public’s help identifying him. The suspect is described as a bald man between 25 to 40 years old, and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black pants, dark brown boots, and carrying a black book bag.Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish speakers, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).The attack comes at a time when anti-gay sentiment is on the rise in response to increased LGBTQ visibility.Recently, three men were caught on surveillance camera destroying Pride flags mounted on a fence near the historic Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. In May, a homeless man was charged with several hate crimes for allegedly defecating on an LGBTQ Pride flag and wiping his behind with another.

Brandy Clark on Going for Laughs With ‘Shucked’ and Getting Dead-Serious With a Brandi Carlile-Produced Solo Album

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Singer-songwriter Brandy Clark has enjoyed triumphs recently on two fronts. Ten years of work on the score for her first Broadway musical, “Shucked,” paid off with a Tony nomination and a Drama Desk Award win for her and score co-writer Shane McAnally. And the Nashville resident’s self-titled fourth album, which found her friend Brandi Carlile moving into the producer’s chair, got the kind of great reviews that augur for more Grammy nominations (on top of the 10 nods she’s already picked up over the years). While she was making one of her many visits to New York, Variety caught up with her for a Facetime feature to discuss both her new Warner Records album, one of the year’s best, and the hit musical, which has a cast album of its own. The joint timing is coincidental, of course (“Shucked” was originally tagged for a 2020 opening, with an out-of-town run in D.C. that was just about to begin when the pandemic kicked in). That she gets to talk about two home runs at once makes her career seem far from anything that ends in “-ucked,” unless lucked applies.

Carolines Entertainment, Horizon Sports & Experiences Team Up to Boost New York Comedy Festival

Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor Carolines Entertainment has tapped Horizon Sports & Experiences as its agency of record to develop sponsorship, brand activation, experiential and hospitality strategies to engage audiences across a variety of platforms on behalf of the 2023 New York Comedy Festival. HS&E, part of Horizon Media, will provide sponsors its full suite of data and analytics services and solutions. The 19th annual festival is slated to return in November. In an era when a writers strike has advertisers wringing their hands about how to align their brand messages with new comedy content, the festival, which started in 2004, may provide an alternative, says Neal Gluckman, HS&E’s senior vice president and head of sales, in an interview. “Brands still need to be out there,” he says, and the festival attracts a young, engaged base and also generates a lot of social-media content as comedians, venues and fans share their expereinces.

Joe Scarborough was on a tear on Monday morning, raging over those who are still defending former president Trump amid that second indictment. Among those on the receiving end of Scarborough’s ire was The New York Post, after they ran a headline ending in “What About the Bidens?” on their front page.In full, the front page headline of Monday’s New York Post read “Trump was indicted but … WHAT ABOUT THE BIDENS?” It featured images of both President Biden and his son Hunter, and opinions from House speaker Kevin McCarthy and Post columnist Miranda Devine, complaining about a “double standard” (despite the fact that there is in fact an investigation ongoing into the classified documents found at President Biden’s homes).“Listen.
