New Covid-19 Travel Advisory: Californians Told To Stay Within 120 Miles Of Home

In the past week there has been a lot of good news for virus-ridden California. The graph charting the number of new cases in the state looks like a downward staircase, from 42,655 on Thursday to 30,699 on Saturday to 22,403 on Wednesday. That’s a near 50% drop in less than a week.

Two days after the Los Angeles Public Health Department announced that the much-talked-about U.K. variant of Covid-19, known as B.1.1.7, had been identified in the region, the California Department of Public Health revealed that another lesser-known strain had been circulating in the county as well.

The singer appeared to be filming something, such as a new music video, during the outing since a camera crew was following him, and his muscles were also on full display. California residents are being advised to stay near their homes while the state attempts to curb the continued spread of the coronavirus.  The California Department of Public Health issued updated guidance Wednesday, deterring residents from traveling more than 120 miles from their homes.

On Monday, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the creation of a statewide “Oxygen Strategy” to confront a new, critical problem: lack of oxygen for those afflicted with Covid-19. He said a “task force on oxygen” was stood up a week ago.

Arizona is seeing the highest rate of new coronavirus cases in the U.S., according to data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which shows an average of 121.8 new illnesses per 100,000 people over the last seven days. California is tracking second, with a rate of 97.1 per 100,000, followed by Tennessee, South Carolina, and then Kansas.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Monday said the state has identified its first case of a new, more infectious variant of the coronavirus that was first discovered in the U.K. It was detected in a man in his 60s in Saratoga Springs, about 200 miles north of New York City.

As of late Saturday, the nation has surpassed 350,000 deaths from coronavirus. At least 350,214 deaths have been reported since the start of the pandemic, Johns Hopkins University said.

Kirk Cameron rang in the New Year by continuing to defy a stay-at-home order issued in Southern California. The "Growing Pains" alum, 50, has come under fire several times in the last month for reportedly hosting gatherings despite shutdowns in the state.Two caroling events Cameron helped organize last month featured dozens of gatherers standing closely and without masks.
