Cardross’ new speed camera may not become fully operational until June, a police inspector for Helensburgh and Lomond has said.
The device has been situated on top of a tall yellow pole on the village’s Main Road since February, although signs have informed motorists that it is not yet in use.
It had been hoped that the camera would become fully operational by the end of April, but Inspector Alan Heron fears that this may not be the case due to issues with getting power to the camera.
The discussion took place during a virtual meeting of Argyll and Bute Council’s Helensburgh and Lomond Community Planning group on Thursday, April 21.
The inspector gave the information after local resident Alistair McCuish questioned when speed camera signage at both ends of the village would be installed.
Inspector Heron said: “I spoke to the safety unit on that very issue yesterday. However, in addition to power to the camera, it is down to the local authority and we are speaking to them to establish the best place for the signage.
“This will be in place before the camera goes live. The last update on that was that it would likely be the end of this month, but this has been pushed back, potentially to the end of next month or even June.
“This is not as soon as I would like it to be, but it is down to third parties. It is not as simple as us flicking a switch.”
Argyll and Bute Council has been contacted for comment.
