Netflix's new Black Lives Matter category and 14 powerful programmes about racism

Ava Duvernay has signed on to make a new series about sportsman and activist Colin Kaepernick’s early years.The longtime friends will collaborate on the six-part Colin in Black & White, which will focus on Kaepernick’s teenage years and early sports success in California before he spearheaded a social and civil rights movement by taking a knee during the U.S.

In response to the worldwide demonstrations protesting racial injustice in the wake of George Floyd's death, Netflix has launched a Black Lives Matter collection of films, TV shows and documentaries to help U.S. subscribers better understand the experience of Black Americans.

There’s never been a better time to read up. Harlem’s Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, a part of the New York Public Library system, has just released its Black Liberation Reading List to mark its 95th anniversary and to respond to the global protests in support of Black Lives Matter.  The list is 95 books long and focuses on titles by black authors, many whose papers are included in the Schomburg collection: Think James Baldwin, Maya Angelou, Ann Petry and Harry Belafonte.

Billie Eilish joined the long list of celebrities who have participated in the Black Lives Matter protest across the USA, Daily Mail reported. The protest in the country started after Floyd the 46-year-old security guard, who died on May 25 after police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his back rendering him unable to breathe.

The Black Lives Matter movement is not just about the unlawful deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. It’s about 400 years of oppression and systemic racism against black people in the United States by citizens, laws and law enforcement.
