Netflix acquires streaming rights to all 21 Studio Ghibli films

Netflix fantasy series The Witcher is to be the latest blockbuster filmed in Scotland – with key scenes shot on the Isle of Skye.

Neil Meron, whose credits include “Chicago,” “Hairspray” and “Jesus Christ Superstar,” has boarded Netflix’s movie adaptation of the Broadway musical “13.”

Spotify has purchased The Ringer, Bill Simmons’ sports and culture site, the companies announced today (February 5). The move follows the streaming service’s expansion into podcasts. (The Ringer has 30 podcasts.) The Ringer, which was previously in partnership with Vox Media, also has a video network, film production division, and book imprint, as The New York Times notes.

Channel 4’s streaming service All 4 has acquired the U.K. rights to “Seinfeld” as part of a deal with Sony Pictures Television, the company announced on Tuesday. The streamer will host the iconic 1990s sitcom until Netflix takes the global rights in 2021.

It's the first batch of 21 of the iconic studio's movies that are coming to the streamer this year.

Netflix has acquired exclusive streaming rights to the full film catalog from beloved Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli for everywhere in the world outside North America and Japan.The landmark deal, unveiled Monday through French distribution partner Wild Bunch International, represents the first time that all 21 Ghibli films — including Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, among others — will be made available via streaming on a worldwide

Studio's output will be available to stream from next month.

21 movies from the impressive back-catalogue of Japan’s Studio Ghibli are heading to Netflix globally in the coming months. The movies, outlined below, will head to Netflix in most locations (excluding North America and Japan), some arriving at the beginning of February, and then more in March and April.

The iconic animated features of Japan’s Studio Ghibli will be available on Netflix from February. The move is a further change of position for the studio which has repeatedly resisted the idea that its beloved cartoons would be released on digital platforms.

Raedio, the joint venture label that Insecure star Issa Rae launched with Atlantic Records last October, has acquired the music supervision firm Bonfire Collective. Bonfire Collective founder/creative head Stephanie Diaz-Matos will now join Raedio as head of music supervision and its production music library. Bonfire’s offices in Los Angeles, New York and New Orleans will operate under Raedio.
