Follow OK! on Threads here: https://www.threads.net/@ok_mag With filming for the Neighbours reboot underway, a new chapter of the Australian soap looks set to begin. Having first kicked off back in 1985, viewers across the world were left in shock when it was revealed last year that the show would be coming to an end. However, it was later announced that it would be making its return.
Throughout the years, Neighbours has seen plenty of stars including Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan find fame on Ramsay Street. Even Barbie star Margot Robbie launched her career as Donna Freedman between 2008 and 2011. During that time too, soap star James Sorensen was a familiar face on the show in his role as Declan Napier.
After first appearing on Neighbours in 2007, James’ character Declan became a single teenage dad after the mother of his child was killed off in a car accident. However, after nearly three years James, now 37, stepped back from his role and embarked on a career outside of acting and his character was taken over by Erin Mullally. At the time, What To Watch reports James as saying that watching his character be replaced by another actor was a “difficult” thing to do.
“It will be strange to see someone playing the part that I started and basically created, it's been my life,” the publication reports him as telling the Holy Soap website. “It's not just being Declan at the studio, I get 'Declan' on the street, at restaurants, everywhere. Declan is me so to hand it over is difficult.” Instead, after leaving Neighbours, James signed up for the army However, soon after joining, the star suffered a horrific back injury during an exercise accident.
