CBS has picked up NCIS: Sydney for a second season. The procedural will also return for a second year on Paramount+ Australia.
NCIS: Sydney marked the first international expansion of the franchise. It debuted on Paramount+ Australia on Nov. 10, 2023, and on CBS in the U.S. and on Global in Canada on Nov. 14, 2023.
The series premiere reached over 10.2 million viewers on linear in the U.S., which included an encore episode.
NCIS: Sydney was the No. 1 new series of the fall and currently ranks as the No. 3 new series of the 2023-2024 season, behind Tracker and Elsbeth. In the U.S., it averaged more than 8 million multi-platform viewers per episode, across linear, Paramount+ and CBS TVE in L+35-day viewing.
“The global power of the NCIS franchise became even stronger on broadcast and streaming with the addition of NCIS: Sydney,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “Our American viewers have fully embraced these engaging characters, unique stories and the fabulous Australian scenery. Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Dick Wolf is in for another busy season at NBC. No surprise here, the Peacock network has renewed “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: SVU” for the 2024-25 broadcast TV season.
The NCIS franchise will be airing its 1,000th episode on April 15, and CBS Studios President David Stapf has been involved in every single one of them. Because he was head of CBS current programming at the time, he even participated in the development of the mothership series from Day 1 because it originated as two back-door pilot episodes of an existing show, JAG, that aired in April 2003. He was in on all casting sessions and still remembers Pauley Perrette’s audition that won her the role of Abby in the room.

Selome Hailu CBS and Paramount+ Australia have renewed “NCIS Sydney” for a second season. The series, which is the first international iteration of “NCIS,” debuted in November of 2023. It is the fifth series in the franchise, which includes the still-running “NCIS” and “NCIS: Hawai’i” along with “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “NCIS: New Orleans,” which have both concluded.
