A naked grandpa wrecked a hotel room on a drink and drug-fuelled rampage and caused over £48,000 of damage.
Michael Turner, 52, was found at the end of his destructive spree lying naked in a running shower by the hotel owner, reports Wales Online.
The incident occurred last year at Heritage Hotel in Wales when co-owner Dale Smith received a call from a resident regarding leaks coming from the ceiling. Cardiff Crown Court heard that on October 7 2021, Smith arrived at his hotel to check out the problem and was stunned to see a room had been 'completely trashed'.
Mr Smith entered the room with his mother to see that a desk and wardrobe had been damaged. The glass from the shower had been smashed and pulled out into the room.
The bathroom was also overflowing with water as the shower had been left running, which was causing the floor to leak water into the rooms below. Turner was found amongst the chaos, naked and appearing to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The 52-year-old was arrested but denied causing the damage claiming his room as it was in 'perfect condition' the previous evening. The defendant later claimed he 'can't remember' committing the offence before later pleading guilty to criminal damage.
Prosecutor Andrew Kendal said there was substantial damage to walls, carpets, and electrics from the incident. The total amount of the damage caused came to more than £48,000.
Defence barrister Andrew Taylor said Turner has a long history with substance misuse and described him acting "erratic and in an unusual way" prior to smashing up the hotel room. He said: "[Turner] tells me he needs to start rebuilding his life."
Sentencing, Judge David Wynn Morgan said: "You had an addiction to Class A drugs and the offence
