Here’s a plot summary: “In this fresh coming-of-age story, an 18th birthday mushroom trip brings free-spirited Elliott (Maisy Stella) face-to-face with her wisecracking 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza). But when Elliott’s ‘old ass’ starts handing out warnings about what her younger self should and shouldn’t do, Elliott realizes she has to rethink everything about family, love, and what’s becoming a transformative summer.”
The movie was written and directed by Megan Park, and also stars Percy Hynes White, Maddie Ziegler and Kerrice Brooks.

Rebecca Rubin Senior Film and Media Reporter Aubrey Plaza doles out wisdom to her younger self in the first trailer for “My Old Ass,” a coming-of-age comedy that premiered to rave reviews at Sundance Film Festival. The film takes place the summer before 18-year-old Elliot Labrant (Maisy Stella of Lennon & Maisy fame) heads to college in Toronto. In the trailer, Plaza shows up as the middle-aged version of herself while the present-day Elliot is tripping on shrooms in the woods.
The festival circuit has treated writer, director, and actor Megan Park well. Her debut feature, “The Fallout,” made a big splash at the 2021 South by Southwest Festival.
