My Mum, Your Dad viewers were left in floods of tears as postman Roger, who became a widow last year, shared the utterly devastating story of how and why his wife died. As all the contestants arrived at the Retreat, a swanky country house in the middle of the Sussex countryside, they started to get to know each other. When presenter Davina McCall arrived, as fans were already thrilled by one particular element of the show's format, the four women were told it was time to pick their man to go on a first date with.
Scottish brunette Caroline, 51, instantly knew she wanted to pick Roger, 58, and the pair enjoyed a drink and a chat on the lawn. After some initial getting to know each other questions, talk quickly turned on to Roger's great loss, after being with his wife for 37 years. While Roger managed not to get emotional as he explained what had happened to his late wife, it wasn't long before Caroline was wiping away the tears.
Roger said that his wife had had breast cancer four years ago, but she recovered until she had a spot behind her ear while they were on holiday. It turned out to be melanoma, and before doctors could do much to get her treatment, they discovered the cancer had already spread to her brain. Roger then shared how one night his wife was incredibly tired and fell asleep on the sofa, and she didn't really wake up again.
"Life can be cruel," Caroline said in tears, as she tried to support Roger through his grief. Fans took to Twitter after the devastating scenes, with many crying themselves hearing such a heartbreaking story. "Not crying, nope, totally fine, not a SINGLE tear #MyMumYourDad," one person said.
"Aww Roger…. What a True gent, big heart and the nation loves you. I think we all wanted to jump
