NEW YORK -- With a trendy mask as her accessory — and also reflecting the current state of the world — Lady Gaga performed a medley of her songs, including the top-nominated tune “Rain on Me," at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards.She was joined by Ariana Grande and number of background dancers — all wearing masks — as they performed “Rain on Me," marking the first time the No. 1 song has been performed on TV.

Demi Lovato and her new fiancé Max Ehrich didn't make their in-person red carpet debut at the MTV VMAs tonight. The couple opted not to travel to New York City for the ceremony, instead staying in Los Angeles amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Viewers of the 2020 MTV VMAs took to social media to express their disappointment at the absence of late NBA star Kobe Bryant in the awards show’s “In Memoriam” segment. The ceremony was broadcast from New York on Sunday and the segment honoured stars who have passed away in recent months.
