Peter Debruge Chief Film Critic Up, up and away! The Sundance Film Festival has announced the lineup for its 40th edition, which will take place in Park City, Utah, from Jan. 18–28, with the online component starting Jan.

Surprise! Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh has another new secret project in the can, his second in half a year. His latest, never publicly announced, is a mystery thriller called “Presence,” which will make its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024.

The Sundance Film Festival is celebrating its 40th anniversary in January and it’s no surprise that some legendary Park City filmmakers are returning with new films for the 2024 edition. Among the alumni are Steven Soderbergh, whose landmark film “Sex, Lies and Videotape” debuted at the 1989 fest; Debra Granik, whose Best Picture nominated “Winter’s Bone” won the Grand Jury Dramatic prize at the 2010 festival; and Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who will premiere their fourth movie at Sundance following 2006’s “Half Nelson,” 2008’s “Sugar” and 2015’s “Mississippi Grind.” READ MORE: “American Fiction,” “May December,” and “Past Lives” Top 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards Soderbergh’s latest effort is “Presence,” starring Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, and Julia Fox.

He is currently on tour promoting the book.While in New York City, Lee opened up about his final interactions with Peart, who passed away in 2020 following a three year-long battle with aggressive brain cancer.

John Lennon‘s murderer reportedly apologised after shooting him dead, according to a witness interviewed for a new Apple TV+ docuseries.First announced in October, John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial will land on the streamer on December 6 and examines the pre-meditated crime and its aftermath by troubled fan Mark David Chapman, who fatally shot the former Beatle outside of his New York City apartment block on December 8, 1980. The three-part series is narrated by actor Kiefer Sutherland.The makers of Murder Without A Trial were “granted extensive Freedom of Information Act requests from the New York City Police Department, the Board of Parole and the District Attorney’s office” and features interviews with Lennon’s friends and Chapman’s defence lawyers, psychiatrists, detectives and prosecutors.

A new NYPD detective will be joining the force on the upcoming 23rd season of Law & Order. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Veep alum Reid Scott has joined the upcoming season as a new series regular on the NBC police procedural, portraying an as-yet unamed NYPD detective.

A Murder At The End Of The World reunites The OA creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij for a modern take on a murder mystery.The series premiered on Hulu and Disney+ on November 14, with new episodes released weekly until mid-December.A Murder At The End Of The World stars The Crown’s Emma Corrin as Darby Hart, an amateur sleuth and true crime writer, who gets invited to a secluded retreat in Iceland by a reclusive billionaire, along with eight more guests. But soon after the group’s arrival, one of the guests is found dead, and Hart has to find the killer before they claim any more victims.The show also stars Marling as Lee Andersen and Harris Dickinson in the role of Bill Farrah.
