Zack Snyder’s ‘Star Wars’ Pitch Was a ‘Big Ask’ Since It Had No Pre-Existing Characters and an R-Rating: ‘That Was Almost a Non-Starter’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Zack Snyder’s space opera “Rebel Moon” is coming to Netflix at the end of the year, but it would’ve been a “Star Wars” movie had the “Justice League” director’s original plan for the project panned out. The idea for “Rebel Moon” started out as a pitch for a Snyder-directed “Star Wars” movie that Lucasfilm heard after Disney acquired the studio in 2012 for $4.05 billion. Snyder was in post-production on “Man of Steel” when he made his “Star Wars” pitch to Lucasfilm. Snyder said in a new interview with Empire magazine that “a ‘Star Wars’ movie” was “my original concept” for “Rebel Moon,” adding, “It was ‘Seven Samurai’ in space. I knew that the origins for George [Lucas] were a lot of those Kurosawa films.”

Michael Shannon Turned Down A ‘Star Wars’ Film Because He’s Not Interested In Franchise Films & “Mindless Entertainment”

Michael Shannon recently reprised his role as General Zod in the new “Flash” film for DC Studios. This marks the first time the actor has had a starring role in a huge franchise film since the original time we saw Zod in 2013’s “Man of Steel.” And according to Shannon, that’s not by mistake, as the actor doesn’t really have any interest in acting in franchise films, not even a “Star Wars” feature.

The Flash (★★★☆☆), look no further than IMDb, which has listed every single (uncredited) appearance on the movie’s full cast list. Some cameos are clever, while others are slightly creepy –- yet another example of CGI eerily resurrecting the dead.

Box Office: ‘The Flash’ Paces Itself With $24.5 Million Opening Day, Pixar’s ‘Elemental’ Doesn’t Catch Fire

J. Kim Murphy Nine years after it was first announced, “The Flash” has finally dashed into theaters, speeding toward a debut ahead of the box office competition. But the DC Studios film isn’t exactly matching the lightning pace of its superhero. The Warner Bros. release got started with $24.5 million on opening day, which includes $9.7 million in Thursday previews. That’s enough to set the Ezra Miller film on a surefire pathway to a No. 1 debut on domestic charts, but it’ll be tough for the film to match its projections heading into the weekend — some bullish ones predicting a four-day bow as high as $85 million through the Juneteenth holiday.

‘The Flash’ Multiverse Explained: What the Hell Is Going On With the DC Universe?

The Flash” is here, and if you’ve seen it, you probably have a lot of questions about what it all, especially that cacophonous ending, means for the DC Universe. In the film, Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) travels back in time and to other dimensions in an effort to save his mom’s life (and that of his father, who was wrongly convicted of her murder). Along the way he interacts with at least two actors playing Batman — Ben Affleck from Zack Snyder’s films, and Michael Keaton, who last played the role in 1992’s “Batman Returns” — alongside a whole lot of other characters.

Does ‘The Flash’ Have a Post-Credits Scene?

The Flash” is here. And this time the scarlet speedster (played by Ezra Miller) has really gotten himself into a pickle: during an effort to travel back in time and save his mother, he’s knocked out of his timeline and winds up in a dimension where his mom is still alive (yay!) but there aren’t any other superheroes (boo!) This becomes even more problematic when Zod (Michael Shannon, reprising his role from “Man of Steel”) shows up to conquer a Superman-free earth. See, a real pickle! But a question that looms even larger than: can The Flash save both of his timelines and return home is … should you, as an audience member attending a showing of “The Flash,” stick around afterwards for a post-credits scene? Read on to find out.

The Flash” got off to a slow start in its domestic box office sprint, earning $9.7 million in Thursday previews. Does ‘The Flash’ have a post-credits scene?

The Flash.Directed by Andy Muschietti (It, Mama), this superhero crossover blends DC’s past and present; featuring Ben Affleck’s Batman, Michael Shannon as General Zod from Man Of Steel, alongside Michael Keaton’s return as the caped crusader.Other cast members include Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Ron Livingstone as Henry Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West and Maribel Verdu as Nora Allen. There are two post-credits scenes; one halfway through and another at the very end of the credits.DC hasn’t officially announced a sequel. Kristin Davis: ‘I Wish I Could Fix’ the Kim Cattrall ‘Sex and the City’ Drama, but ‘I Can’t Change Anybody’ and Won’t ‘Waste Energy On It’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Kristin Davis recently told The Telegraph that she will not waste energy on the drama surrounding Kim Cattrall and “Sex and the City.” Variety exclusively reported in May that Cattrall would appear in the second season of Max’s “Sex and the City” sequel series “And Just Like That” in a cameo role. The announcement was something of a bombshell for “Sex and the City” fans, as Cattrall publicly announced in 2016 that she was done playing her character, Samantha, when she didn’t feel like the script for a proposed third film did justice to the character. Her decision to step away from Samantha led to a public fallout with Sarah Jessica Parker, who continues to play Carrie Bradshaw on “And Just Like That.”

Joseph Fiennes Says Playing Michael Jackson Was the ‘Wrong Decision’ and a ‘Bad Mistake’: ‘I Asked the Broadcaster to Pull It’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Joseph Fiennes expressed regret to The Observer over his decision to play Michael Jackson in a pulled 2017 episode of Sky Arts’ anthology series “Urban Myths.” The episode centered on Jackson taking a post-9/11 road trip with Marlon Brando (Brian Cox) and Elizabeth Taylor (Stockard Channing). Fiennes’ casting as the music icon generated whitewashing backlash, and the episode’s trailer ignited outrage over Fiennes’ lighter skin tone and prosthetic nose to play Jackson. “I think people are absolutely right to be upset,” Fiennes said. “And it was a wrong decision. Absolutely. And I’m one part of that — there are producers, broadcasters, writers, directors, all involved in these decisions. But obviously if I’m upfront, I have become the voice for other people. I would love them to be around the table as well to talk about it. But you know, it came at a time where there was a movement and a shift and that was good, and it was, you know, a bad call. A bad mistake.”

‘The Flash’: Michael Shannon Says Returning As Zod “Wasn’t Quite Satisfying” Due To The Multiverse Storyline

It’s not a spoiler, as he’s featured in most of the marketing material, but Michael Shannon is about to make his return to the DC film universe in “The Flash.” Reprising his role as General Zod, Shannon gets to revive a character who was killed in “Man of Steel” in a new film thanks to multiversal shenanigans. And though he’s clearly proud of being in the film, Shannon feels the multiverse aspect made playing Zod a different, somewhat less thrilling experience in “The Flash.” READ MORE: Sasha Calle Wants To Reprise Supergirl In The New DCU: “I Think That ‘The Flash’ Is Really A Runway To A Bigger Story For Her” Speaking to Collider,” Michael Shannon talked about his acclaimed role in “George & Tammy,” but he also spent some time talking about his return as Zod in “The Flash.” Specifically, he talked about what it’s like to return to a character that was previously killed, since the latest DC film deals with multiverse storytelling—something that is running rampant in current superhero films and TV series.
