Ana Gasteyer (SNL, American Auto), Tony Hale (Veep, Inside Out 2), Dulé Hill (The West Wing, Psych), Gillian Jacobs (Community, Love) Jim Rash (Community, Fly Me to the Moon) and Sasheer Zamata (SNL, Home Economics) are set to star in a live reading of Beverly Hills, a soap opera written by TVLine founder and Spoiler Alert author Michael Ausiello when he was 13.
Adding an element of surprise, the actors will get to read the script for the first time when they take the stage on July 16 at Los Angeles’ Hayworth Theater (aka Dynasty Typewriter). Proceeds from the event, which will be live-streamed, will benefit The Trevor Project.
Per the description: “Back in the ‘80s, when Ausiello was a closeted gay pubescent living in small-town New Jersey, he penned 517 episodes of a daytime soap opera, titled Beverly Hills. Miraculously, he saved every handwritten script. The event on July 16, which has a roughly 80-minute running time, will center on a concentrated, self-contained story arc that found six of Beverly Hills’ most popular characters traveling overseas for a life-or-death adventure. Although some of Teenage Ausiello’s atrocious spelling has been cleaned up for this theatrical experience, the scenes will be performed exactly as they were written all those years ago. For better or worse.”
The cast of the reading also includes Mitch Silpa (Bridesmaids, All Rise), Tony Rodriguez (The Simpsons) and newcomer Tristan Michael Brown (Disney Channel’s Pretty Freekin Scary), who will portray teenage Ausiello.
The performance will be co-directed by Ausiello and LA theater vet Tom DeTrinis (Tilda Swinton Answers an Ad on Craigslist) and produced by Ausiello and Patrick Cotnoir (The George Lucas Talk Show).

Brent Lang Executive Editor When Michael Angarano was trying to get “Sacramento,” his indie buddy comedy about two friends who go on a road trip to a certain state capital off the ground, the question he’d get was always the same. Does it really need to be set in Sacramento? “At one point we were ready to shoot the movie in Atlanta — we had the financing and everything,” remembers Angarano, who directed the film, as well as co-wrote it. “And this was for a movie called ‘Sacramento.’ But it’s like why try to cheat it? Maybe, we should we just call it ‘Athens’ or ‘Savannah’?” And even though Angarano and his co-writer Chris Smith weren’t that familiar with the city that inspired their film, its appearance on a highway sign, informing them of the California city’s distance from Los Angeles, was foundational.
