Forecasters at the Met Office have issued a warning to expect thunderstorms and heavy showers across large portions of the UK on Monday as the latest heatwave to scorch the nation comes to an end.The weather warning, which was issued on Friday morning, covers most of the UK - with a few exceptions dotted along the east of the country including Norwich, Hull and Chelmsford. London is also thought to escape the oncoming storms on Monday, according to the current forecast. The yellow weather warning, which will run from 6am until 11.59pm, will see downpours hit the country after months of low rainfall.
In a stark contrast to the drought like conditions of recent weeks, forecasters have even warned that there is a risk that homes and businesses may be flooded, with lightning strikes, hail and strong winds potentially also on the cards. In areas where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of knock on delays hitting the public transport network as trains and buses may be cancelled, while spray and sudden flooding could also lead to some tricky driving conditions and even road closures, warns the the forecaster.
In addition, there is even a chance that some homes may be hit by power cuts, with many of the nation’s energy providers urging residents to take precautions in advance. However, once the thunderstorms have passed through the UK next week, Brits can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the weather begins to stabilise and return to a more seasonal norm.
According to forecasters the country will see a “change in the weather type” in the coming weeks, as cooler air heralds the end to the high temperatures and humidity that have dominated this year’s sizzling hot summer. Next week’s weather warning will come
