Mel C Reveals How The Spice Girls Got Their Nicknames

Two years is a long time in pop music, but for five young ladies it was more like a lifetime. Since bursting into the Official Singles Chart with Wannabe in July 1996, Victoria Adams, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell had enjoyed an impressive run of six Number 1 singles. (Only Stop had stalled at Number 2, beaten to the top of the charts by the monster smash It’s Like That, by Run-DMC & Jason Nevins.)

Mel C has promised she is doing everything she can to ensure another Spice Girls tour will happen next year.2021 will mark 25 years since the band introduced themselves to the world with debut single, ‘Wannabe’. Mel C said there’s high hopes for a 25th anniversary tour.“It would be rude not to!” the singer told ITV’s Lorraine this week, when asked whether the band will look to mark the milestone with a tour.

For decades, Victoria Beckham has been known as “posh” based on her nickname “Posh Spice” in the Spice Girls. “I was given the name Posh in 1996 over lunch with Peter Loraine of Top of The Pops magazine and the rest of the Spice Girls,” Victoria posted on her Instagram Story.
