Media Stocks Lead Market Surge On Stimulus, Reopening, Streaming; AMC Entertainment, Discovery, Live Nation Pop

AMC Entertainment revenue fell last quarter plunged to $162 million from close to $1.5 billion the year as the global pandemic squeezed exhibition. That beat expectations, coming about $20 million above Wall Street’s consensus estimates. The stock is up 3% in late trading.

AMC Entertainment Holding CEO Adam Aron received compensation of $20.92 million in 2020, up from $9.67 million in 2019, according to the cinema giant's proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday. Aron took home $14.8 million in stock awards last year, compared with $6.48 million a year earlier, on top of his base salary for 2020 that amounted to $1.1 million, just down from $1.25 million in 2019.

The concert industry clearly wants to get back to work, as a flurry of announcements on Friday proved. But what those announcements also proved is that getting back to work will require a leap of faith by all involved, most prominently, the government.

AMC Entertainment, the nation’s largest theater chain, said Friday it’s awarding CEO Adam Aron and other executives “supplemental special incentive cash bonuses” to recognize the challenge they faced  steering the embattled company on a financial rollercoaster over the past pandemic year.
