A professional mechanic has revealed the tell-tale sign it's time to sell your second-hand car.
Scotty Kilmer, who has worked on cars for 56 years, regularly shares his motor expertise on social media and one of his tips could save owners of used petrol or diesel vehicles on costly repair bills.
Taking to his YouTube channel, Scotty explained the warning sign to look out for is a result of the car's transmission, also called its gearbox. Experts have also revealed the staggering costs of some car parts which may not be worth investing in.
Listing a car before it develops serious issues can also help owners maintain the best possible valuation. All though Scotty stresses that sellers should still be clear about their vehicle's condition with potential buyers.
As reported by the Express, Scotty said: “Today I’m going to tell you when it’s a good time to get rid of a used car. Now this one has a perfectly smooth running engine but the transmission occasionally gives a big clunk when it shifts.
“Now it wouldn't do it for me in a half-hour drive so now is the time to get rid of it because fixing a 4x4 with an automatic can be a huge expense so if you’re going to sell a used car, sell it before it breaks down entirely. But just make sure you let them know what they’re getting into.”
