Hearst Media Production Group’s Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien returns this weekend with an updated look and a new set.
The syndicated public affairs show, entering its ninth season, will be shot in a converted Manhattan office space, with a variety of interview and presentation areas. In contrast to broadcast Sunday morning shows, Matter of Fact has more of a magazine format. On this weekend’s show, correspondent Jessica Gomez will look at the push to legalize psychedelics for mental health treatment for veterans. O’Brien will interview designer Sergio Hudson about the politics of fashion, and she also will sit down with political cartoonist Christopher Weyant.
After tenures at CNN, NBC and MSNBC, O’Brien became the anchor of Matter of Fact in 2016.
O’Brien told the AP last year that the show was a “teaching hospital” of news, elevating voices of people “who’ve been doing good work in difficult circumstances and giving them a platform.” The show did a special series of programs following the killing of George Floyd, and earlier O’Brien hosted a special on the opioid crisis.
