Marvel Developing ‘Nova’ Project With ‘Moon Knight’ Scribe Sabir Pirzada

Vary Senior Entertainment WriterMarvel Studios’ “Ironheart” has found its directors.Sam Bailey (“Dear White People”) and Angela Barnes (“Blindspotting”) will divide directing duties for the Disney Plus series — which will be produced by Proximity, the production company co-founded by “Black Panther” filmmaker Ryan Coogler.The series follows Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), who invents a suit of armor similar to Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit.

Marvel’s highly-anticipated Ironheart series continues to gain momentum as the studio has set Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes to direct the series for Disney+. Ironheart will star Dominique Thorne as Marvel character Riri Williams, a genius inventor and  creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. Deadline recently broke that Anthony Ramos would also be joining the cast. Deadline has also learned that Ryan Coogler’s production company, Proximity, has come on as producers.

“Moon Knight,” that villain is the chillingly calm Arthur Harrow. But as it happens, Ethan Hawke didn’t look to other villains in pop culture for inspiration on being scary; he looked to real life “television preachers.”Episode 2, now streaming on Disney+, makes a pretty big reveal about Harrow too: he used to be the Moon Knight. Or rather, he was Khonshu’s avatar as Marc Spector and Steven Grant are now.

Ironheart TV series will be the first to bring a transgender character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.The TV series coming to Disney+ has already cast Dominique Thorne (Judas And The Black Messiah, If Beale Street Could Talk) as genius inventor Riri Williams in Ironheart, an original series about the creator of the most advanced suit of armour since Iron Man.Now, a casting call seen by POC Culture says the studio is looking for a “Black, Latina or Afro-Latina transgender woman who is around 18-22 years old” to play a character who is “unapologetically nerdy” with a “mystical bent and unique sense of humour”.Ironheart is expected to release in 2023, though no confirmation has been given.Over the years Marvel has slowly introduced LGBTQ+ characters within its universe.Last year, Chloé Zhao’s Eternals film introduced the first openly gay superhero in the MCU with Phastos, played by Brian Tyree Henry. And Loki’s fluid gender identity and bisexuality were confirmed in his popular Disney+ series last year.Tessa Thompson’s character of Valkyrie has also been confirmed as part of the community.

We’ve all assumed that Marvel Studios have grand, long-term plans for character arcs and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. Kevin Feige, the head of the studio, does a really good job convincing us that every move they make is mostly calculated and mapped out over a long period of time.

“Moon Knight” (the first episode just premiered on Disney+). Diab is an Egyptian filmmaker known for his small-scale dramas that blur the line between truth and fiction. “Moon Knight,” on the other hand, is a horror-tinged fantasy adventure about a nerd who works in a museum gift shop (Oscar Isaac) who discovers he has multiple identities – and one of them is a masked vigilante possessed by the spirit of an ancient Egyptian god.

Sony’s dive into the deeper waters of Marvel with vampire anti-hero Morbius looks to be shaping up to be a new franchise for the Culver City studio. Industry estimates are pegging around $17M today with a shot at an opening north of $40M for the $75M feature production.

Moon Knight (★★★☆☆) is a hero who literally doesn’t know himself. Beneath his mask of bandages and ceremonial armor, he’s a man split in two, beset by inner demons as well as the mystical demons and deities that dog his path.Most days, as we’re led to believe from episode one, he wakes up in London as mild-mannered museum gift shop clerk Steven Grant.

As a long-term Marvel fan I've been a bit conflicted by the Disney+ TV shows. All in all, barring Hawkeye which might now top my list of essential run-up-to-Christmas geek viewing, I've found them a mixed bag with moments of brilliance but a lot of issues around pacing, canon and general tone. I hate to say it but Disney+ has never really hit the mark with me for Marvel TV in the way the Netflix shows, particularly Daredevil and The Punisher, did.

Marvel Studios’ “Moon Knight” is unlike anything attempted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2008’s “Iron Man.” Not only is it Marvel’s first Disney Plus series that doesn’t focus on already established characters, the first four episodes of the show, which Variety has seen, contain not a single spoken reference to the MCU. No one talks about Thanos or the Snap, Spider-Man or Wakanda.

Soon enough, it turns out those visions are really the real, dissociative states of Mark Specter, another character played by Isaac that shares Grant’s body and identity but is also a human embodiment of the Egyptian god Khonshu.

With “WandaVision,” the first of its series to stream on Disney Plus, the studio used familiar characters to animate a story that, in its early going, was substantially more pliable and strange than what they were willing to attempt in a heavily leveraged movie.

While a fascinating idea of hero as unreliable narrator lies within, encouraged by intriguing notions of mental health issues, there are frustrating elements to the new series “Moon Knight” that begs the question of whether Marvel Studios will ever figure out how to make truly great television. Because while they’ve got a pretty terrific formula for making entertaining movies and thus far have made good-to-ok TV, Marvel is a machine stuck in the mold of plot, within a medium that always favors character.

We are introduced to Spector via one of his alter egos, sheepish British museum employee Steven Grant (Isaac goes full Dick-Van-Dyke-in-“Mary Poppins”), who is soon plagued with visions of a mystery man who looks an awful lot like himself, as well as nightmarish creatures with animal heads that look like old gods.

Moon Knight is reportedly working on a new Marvel project.As reported in Deadline, Sabir Pirzada will work on a new adaptation of superhero ‘Nova’.The character first appeared in Marvel Comics 46 years ago. Nova – or Richard Rider – is a member of the intergalactic police force called Nova Cops.In the comics, Nova has crossed paths with the Guardians Of The Galaxy and the secret Avengers, meaning there is potential to cross over with other Marvel films.It is not known yet whether Nova will be developed into a feature film or a limited series for Disney+.NME has reached out to Marvel for comment.Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige ha previously told ComicBook that Nova was set to appear in early drafts of James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy.“If we have a big board with a bunch of characters that have more immediate potential, Nova is on that board,” he told the publication.“Because of the connection to the Guardians universe, because there are more than one examples to pull from in the comics that are interesting.
