Joe Otterson TV Reporter Marc Maron has been cast alongside Owen Wilson in an upcoming untitled golf comedy series at Apple TV+, Variety has learned. The series was originally announced in March with Wilson in the lead role. Peter Dager is also set to star in the show.
Wilson stars as Pryce Cahill, described as “an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago. After he gets fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store and his wife walks out on him, Pryce hedges his bets entirely on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom (Dager).” Maron will star as Mitts, Pryce’s best friend and former caddy. Apple has given the show a 10-episode order.
Maron’s past TV starring roles include the critically-acclaimed series “GLOW” at Netflix and his self-titled series “Maron,” which ran for four seasons on IFC. He has also starred in films such as “To Leslie,” “The Bad Guys,” and “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.” Maron is also a highly celebrated stand up comedian, with his most recent special — “Marc Maron: From Bleak to Dark” — debuting on HBO in 2023. He is the host of the hit podcast “WTF with Marc Maron.” He is repped by Avalon, Independent Artists Group, 42West, and Brecheen Feldman Breimer Silver & Thompson.
Jason Keller created the series and serve as executive producer. Wilson will executive produce in addition to starring. Ben Silverman of Propagate Content also executive produces along with Howard T.

Is it possible we have a snub or even two in the Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category? The Ladies may be searching high and low for two nominees to round out the field, but the gentlemen face a somewhat more competitive race. And that’s a big emphasis on “somewhat.” One thing is for sure, last year’s winner, Jeremy Allen White, will absolutely be nominated again and is once again the frontrunner for his performance in season two of “The Bear.” Comedy legend Martin Short should also earn his third nod for “Only Murders in the Building.” Beyond those two actors, however, things may or may not get interesting.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Leanne Morgan is set to star in a multi-cam comedy series at Netflix that boasts Chuck Lorre as one of its co-creators, Variety has learned. Morgan co-created the series with Lorre and Susan McMartin. Netflix has given the untitled show a 16-episode order, while also commissioning two more stand up specials from Morgan.

The series is based on the 1981 film of the same name that was directed by and starred Alan Alda with Carol Burnett, Rita Moreno, Sandy Dennis, and Len Cariou also among the cast members. The series was first announced in January with an eight-episode order and is slated to begin production later this year.
