Manchester United are unhappy with Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson’s comments about goalkeeper Nathan Bishop.
Bishop punctured Wrexham striker Paul Mullin’s lung in a rumbustious challenge in the 12th minute but was only booked.
Mullin required oxygen before he was substituted and Parkinson said Bishop should “steer clear” of Wrexham after the incident.
Bishop, 23, reached out to Mullin and apologised for the incident on Twitter but United feel Parkinson has unnecessarily inflamed the situation.

Mullin pillaged 46 goals in 51 games as Wrexham returned to the Football League for the first time in 15 years last season but he seems set to miss the start of their season.
United are concerned Parkinson’s comments could fuel online abuse towards Bishop after an accidental and non-malicious challenge. The players are represented by the same agency.
Bishop joined United in January 2030 from Southend United and his first half appearance against Wrexham was his first involvement in a remotely senior United side.
Parkinson said: “It’s a clumsy challenge from the goalkeeper, I’m disappointed with that. It should have been a straight red. If it’s not denying a goalscoring opportunity, it’s still a dangerous challenge.
“So if you add the two scenarios together he should have been off the pitch. It’s a dangerous challenge and obviously, Paul Mullin is our talisman.
“I’m fuming about it, I’ve got to be honest with you. It was a clumsy, reckless, challenge in a pre-season game and I’m not happy with it at all.
“I haven’t seen the goalie and he’s probably best steering clear of us for the time being because we’re not very happy."
United staff were seen conversing with Bishop after the game as
