A man was in a 'really serious' condition in hospital today after he was punched from behind in Manchester city centre. Detectives investigating the early hours attack in the Northern Quarter have issued an image taken from a CCTV camera of a man they want to speak with.

A husband who attacked his pregnant wife after they rowed about a holiday was caught at an airport trying to board a flight. Ishan Mehrobi, 43, told his wife he wanted to go away without her.
The pair rowed and an altercation soon developed at their home in Whitefield, Bury. Mehrobi admitted 'pushing and shoving' his wife. He also 'smashed up' their bedroom.
The fight moved onto the landing and the woman admitted the couple were 'beating each other'. She then 'slipped' and fell down the stairs. Prosecutors did not allege that Mehrobi pushed his wife.

Police were called and when officers arrived they found the woman crying and upset, with a blanket over her. She was injured, but her wounds were not attributable to Mehrobi's actions, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.
Mehrobi left the house without calling the emergency services, and was found the next day at Heathrow Airport trying to board a flight, prosecutor Ellen Shaw said. He was originally charged with more serious offences but later pleaded guilty to battery, following the incident on October 3 last year.
In a basis of plea document accepted by prosecutors, Mehrobi accepted the couple had an argument and that he 'pushed and shoved' his wife. He said that a short time later his wife 'slipped' and fell down the stairs, and he wasn't to blame for those injuries.
Now Mehrobi, who has a previous conviction for assaulting his wife, has been sentenced to an 18 month community order and told to complete a domestic violence rehabilitation course. Defending, Ben Kaufman said the couple were both born in Afghanistan. Mehrobi fled Taliban rule and arrived in the UK in 2002, he said.
