Highways England closed part of the M56 about eight miles south of Manchester city centre on Monday night after a road accident resulted in damage to the barriers on the central reservation.
Following an accident on the eastbound side of the motorway close to Junction 3A for Wythenshawe, one lane was closed off to traffic while repairs were carried out on the crash barrier.
