Lysette Anthony 'took 45 minutes to crawl to the loo' amid Parkinson’s battle

When actress Lysette Anthony first landed the role of Hollyoaks’ Marnie Nightingale in 2016, she was understandably over the moon. But, unbeknown to viewers of the Channel 4 soap, Lysette was hiding a crushing secret – she had just been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the young age of 52. Now, breaking her silence for the first time in an exclusive interview and shoot with OK!, Lysette has detailed the lows she’s overcome since her initial diagnosis, as she vows to live life to the full and continue working.
While she admits that her symptoms have naturally worsened over the past six years, the 58 year old is glad to be feeling considerably better than she did just two months ago when her health declined so much, she thought she was dying. She tells us: “At Christmas it was so bad. “You cannot move but then you just get this rush of smoke sound inside your ears and then you fall and knock yourself down.” Lysette continues: “I thought that was it. I couldn’t get off the couch. I was so frightened in every sense.
“I couldn’t stand. I had to crawl to the loo – it took 45 minutes just to get there and it’s only around the corner.” However, the actress, who has shown huge strength in the face of adversity, continued to say that she became determined to reach her goal.The mum-of-one explains: “But I’d be damned if I wasn’t going to do it myself.
