Former The Only Way Is Essex star Lucy Mecklenburgh has given fans an update on her son Roman’s mystery health condition. 30 year old Lucy, who is pregnant with her second child, experienced a terrifying scare last year when Roman, two, was rushed to hospital and put in intensive care. Following the ordeal, Lucy and partner Ryan Thomas have continued to monitor their son’s health.
Recently, reality TV star Lucy explained that doctors had discovered that liquids were able to leak into Roman’s lungs. As a result, the youngster must drink fluids that contain a thickening agent.Taking to her Instagram Stories, Lucy showed herself stirring the agent into some plant based milk. Posting the image to her 1.7million, she wrote: “All Roman’s drinks have to be thick now. He will get used to it, I’m sure,” followed by a distressed face emoji. According to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, thickened liquids move more slower than thin liquids, meaning that children have more time to control the liquid while swallowing.
In turn, this can keep liquid out of the lungs and therefore help protect the airway and prevent aspiration and other serious health conditions, such as pneumonia. Just last week, the doting mum explained that Roman had undergone a videofluoroscopy - a form of X-ray that shows how patients swallow. “A lot of you were asking about Roman's test yesterday mainly parents that might have similar issues with their children and wondering why he went for this test and what it is, what it means,” she said.
