Tributes have been pouring in for Love Island star Mike Thalassitis, who passed away three years ago at the age of 26. Mike, who first rose to fame on Love Island in 2017, took his own life in March 2019, with many of his friends and co-stars leaving touching messages for the star on the anniversary of his death. Marcel Somervile, who appeared alongside Mike on Love Island, posted a pair of the pair together to Instagram with the caption: “Always Remembered My Brother! “It’s not a coincidence me and @jonny_mitchell1991 always catch up around this time.
If you was still with us no doubt you’d be having a drink with us!” Mike’s co-star Montana Brown, who also spoke to OK! About her “heartbreak” over Mike’s death, posted a photo of the pair to her Instagram story, saying she “can’t believe” he’s gone. Montana wrote: “3 years today, can’t believe it. What a gentle and sweet man left us far too soon.
I know he is watching over and at peace now which gives me great comfort. “But days like today I will be thinking of all the amazing memories we shared.” Elsewhere, fans took to Mike’s old social media accounts to leave tributes to the star. One wrote: “3 years gone, never forgotten xx”, while another commented: “Has it been 3 years already”.
Another said that Mike would be “in my thoughts today” and another said: “Rest in peace xxxx”. Love Island has previously come under pressure to improve its aftercare for its stars, following the suicides of Mike, former contestant Sophie Gradon in 2018 and presenter Caroline Flack in 2020. Prior to the 2021 series, Love Island bosses urged viewers to “think before you post”.
