Jake Cornish and Liberty Poole's romance in the Love Island villa was a fan favourite on the show last year. Former water engineer Jake, 24, and ex student Liberty, 22, appeared to be a match made in heaven – and the pair were even favourites to win the show at one point. But, things quickly turned sour in their romance as Jake's feelings over the stunning blonde were called into question.
Days before the final, Liberty dramatically decided to end their romance – a move which she recently told OK! made her stronger. Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter. You can sign up at the top of the page.
Months on from their split as Liberty impresses Dancing on Ice viewers and judges with her skating skills, Jake has revealed he was left "devastated" by the dumping. He has told The Sun: "I only had one girlfriend before her, my childhood sweetheart. I’d never been dumped and it hurt.
"One minute we were planning a holiday together and arranging to meet each other’s families, the next it was over. “I was devastated, I couldn’t think straight. My family was asking how my mental health was.
"Something made her decide that we weren’t right for each other and I had to take it on the chin." At the time, Jake was accused of playing games by viewers who were left skeptical of his intentions with Liberty. Now, the Weston-Super-Mere-based lad has shared his shock over the public backlash towards him and even claimed the pair gave things another try. He insisted: "Liberty was my cup of tea, but it took me a while to get to know her and for those feelings to grow.
