Richard E. Grant bags guest role in ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ retelling

Katarzyna Grynienko Louise Archambault’s World War II drama “Irena’s Vow,” starring Canada’s Sophie Nélisse (“Yellowjackets,” “The Book Thief”), the U.K.’s Dougray Scott (“My Week with Marilyn,” “Mission: Impossible II”), and Poland’s Maciej Nawrocki and Andrzej Seweryn, is in production in Poland, and is set to premiere next year, according to Film New Europe. The film tells the story of Polish nurse Irene Gut Opdyke (born Irena Gut), who in 1982 was awarded the Righteous Among the Nations medal for showing remarkable courage in her attempt to save Polish Jews during World War II.
In 2009, her story hit Broadway as a play, written by Dan Gordon, who is also the film’s scriptwriter.“About 25 years ago, I was driving to my home in Los Angeles and listening to the radio. I heard a woman, Irene Gut Opdyke, telling her story.
When I got home, I sat in the car in the driveway for another hour and a half, because I couldn’t stop listening to the story she was telling,” Gordon told FNE. The film is produced by Canada’s Entract Studios, Canada’s Darius Films, Telefilm Canada and K&K Selekt in Poland, with a budget of Euros 4.1 million, with Euros 212,220 of production financing from the Polish Film Institute.

The Killers have been announced as one of the headliners of Poland’s Open’er Festival 2022.The indie rockers join dozens of acts already announced for the festival, which is held at Gdynia-Kosakowo airport, and will top the bill on July 2.Dua Lipa, Doja Cat, Imagine Dragons, Twenty One Pilots, Playboi Carti, Martin Garrix, The Chemical Brothers, Måneskin, Megan Thee Stallion, Glass Animals, Gunna, Clairo, Tove Lo, Little Simz, Jessie Ware, Royal Blood, Years And Years, The Smile and Michael Kiwanuka are all booked for the festival, which runs from June 29-July 2.The Killers previously headlined the 2020 edition of the Polish festival.Open’er Festival is operating in solidarity with Ukraine and says it “will be a place of support for Ukrainians facing the barbaric Russian aggression of their country”.A special initiative “Wspierajmy Ukrainę na koncertach / Support Ukraine at concerts” will take place during the festival to help the actions of Polish Center For International Aid. Denes Varga Rafael Kapelinski’s drama “Budapest Diaries” wrapped shooting in Budapest this week. The Polish-Hungarian coproduction is set in 1981, when the political and economical crisis worsened in Poland, and many people travelled to Hungary where the repression was less severe, according to Film New Europe.Kapelinski is a London-based writer-director, a graduate of the U.K.’s National Film and Television School and the London Film School.
