Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti Gets Covid-19 Vaccine, Even Though He May Not Qualify Under County Rules

Late Monday evening Los Angeles County health officials announced some long-awaited good news. In a statement, they said the region had reached the required threshold of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 to allow students back into classrooms.

The good news in Los Angeles this week is that the city’s largest Covid-19 vaccination site at Dodger Stadium will reopen. The bad news is, for the second week in a row, the city has next to no first doses of vaccine to administer.

Los Angeles County will again reserve the majority of its available vaccinations again next week to provide second doses for those ready to receive them, with county-operated large-scale sites exclusively administering second doses, health officials said Friday.

Even though they have been a priority for weeks now, only 20% of Los Angeles County residents aged 65 and over have received even one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, according to county health officials.

Golden Globes will be broadcast from both New York and Los Angeles for the first time, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler splitting the bi-coastal hosting duties.
