Liz Truss beat Rishi Sunak on every aspect of their Monday night tv clash by a big margin, according to the latest polling among Tory members.
The Yougov poll of Tory members after the debate found that 50 per cent thought Truss performed better than Sunak who was on 39 per cent.
Nearly two thirds of those polled — 63 per cent — said that Truss came across as more in touch with ordinary people, compared to 19 per cent for Sunak.

The only good news for Sunak, who suffered criticism for interrupting his rival on economics, was that voters considered him - by one point - to be more prime ministerial.
The snap YouGov survey of 507 Conservative Party members had the former chancellor edging it in the prime ministerial stakes by 43 per cent to 42 per cent.
On every other count - trust, likability, in touch with ordinary people - Sunak lost to Truss. Asked who “performed best” Tory members in the poll split 50/39 per cent in favour of Truss.
On who was most “trustworthy” Truss was ahead again on 51 per cent to 37 per cent.
On which of the two was most “likeable” Truss came in at 54 per cent to Sunak’s 35 points.
The results will be a boost to the Foreign Secretary who is celebrating her 47th birthday on Tuesday.
Truss and Sunak will spar on TV for a second time this evening after the first head-to-head debate saw the two contenders to be the next prime minister tear strips off each other over their economic plans.
The senior Tories trashed each other’s economic plans in a series the blue-on-blue attacks in which Truss accused Sunak of causing a recession and he claimed her tax-cutting proposals were not Conservative or “moral”.
The two will face each other in a TalkTV/Sun event at 6pm,
