Rak-Su’s Myles Stephenson has said that his band was “caught in the crossfire” during Little Mix’s falling out with Simon Cowell and his entertainment company, Syco. The band signed with Syco after winning The X Factor in 2017, while Little Mix won six years prior.
After seven years at Syco, the all-female band made the decision to leave Syco halfway through working on one of their albums, and switched over to RCA Records, another subsidiary of Sony Entertainment, instead. The move came after an alleged fallout with Simon – something which Jade Thrilwall later said “f***ed them over”.
At the time of the falling out, Rak-Su were under the same management as Little Mix, and Myles has now claimed the group – made up of him, Ashley Fongho, Jamaal Shurland and Mustafa Rahimtulla – was “caught in the crossfire”. Myles exclusively told OK!: “Initially we were obviously with Syco, and they had the falling out with Little Mix didn’t they? And we got caught in that crossfire because we were under the same management as Little Mix.Then, we signed to RCA afterwards and it kind of just didn’t work out.” He further explained: “Syco had overspent on our record deal so there wasn’t much money in the pot for RCA to do what they wanted to do.
So, both ourselves and the management came to the conclusion that we wanted to mutually part ways as opposed to getting dropped." "The numbers were there, but it was just a matter of funds really and now we have the freedom to do what we want to do, and release what we want to release – we’ve kind of taken it back to the way we were before X Factor when we were fully independent," Myles continued.
