British-Palestinian Filmmaker Farah Nabulsi On Debut Feature ‘The Teacher’: “I Needed To Make This Film To Cope With The Injustice I’ve Witnessed” — Toronto

When British-Palestinian filmmaker Farah Nabulsi was watching the UK media coverage of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange in 2011, it had a profound impact on her. At the time, Shalit was an Israeli occupation soldier who had been abducted in 2006 by Palestinian freedom fighters and the first Israeli soldier to be captured by Palestinians since 1994. Shalit was eventually released five years later in exchange for more than 1,000 Palestinian political prisoners, including hundreds of which were women and children.

Listen to CMAT’s introspective new single ‘Stay For Something’

CMAT has released her latest single ‘Stay For Something’ – listen to the song below.Taken off her upcoming album ‘CrazyMad, For Me’ (out October 13), the single is accompanied by a music video which sees CMAT frolicking around a lush castle in a bright neon outfit.“It’s basically just about questioning why I stayed / suffered in a bad relationship for as long as i [sic] did,” said CMAT (real name Ciara Alice-Mary Thompson) of the track. “Trying to desperately find some kind of meaning in the mess and then being embarrassed when i remember the good parts.“It’s not very lyrical or poetic, it’s just a lot of emotion and energy – this song, to me, sounds like going for a run at 1am with your headphones on full blast, screaming through the streets in order to get away from your problems.

National Cinema Day returning to UK this week with £3 tickets

made its debut in 2022, with more than 600 cinemas across the country including major chains and smaller independent venues offering the cut-price tickets to celebrate the occasion. On Saturday (September 2), it will return for a second year after 2022’s inaugural event saw over 1.5million admissions, more than three times the usual level for a regular day.National Cinema Day is organised by Cinema First, and supported by the Film Distributors’ Association and the UK Cinema Association.Cinema First boss Iain Jacob said: “There seems no better time than now to celebrate U.K. cinema-going, one of the nation’s favourite out-of-home leisure activities.“Coming off of the back of recent successes and the huge profile they have given to the sector, we wanted to give everyone a chance to enjoy the big screen experience.”Get more details on National Cinema Day 2023 here.Jacob added: “While all the evidence confirms that cinema-going is amongst the most low-cost, best value-for-money leisure opportunities, we also of course recognize that many households are still experiencing significant impacts on their finances and wanted to do our bit to make a trip to the cinema even more affordable for the whole family.“I am hugely grateful for the level of support shown by colleagues across the industry for National Cinema Day, which we very much hope will exceed last year’s very successful event, confirming the continued relevance of film in the lives of the cinema-going audience.”As reported by Variety, the dual release of Barbie and Oppenheimer led to a sizeable uptick in UK box office numbers in July.
