MJ Lenderman pays homage to Bob Dylan with new single ‘Knockin’

Bob Dylan, and takes direct inspiration from his iconic track ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’.The single was recorded at Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville, North Carolina, and sees the indie guitarist put his own unique spin on the 1973 classic – replacing the stripped-back structure with his distinctive vocal tone and a collection of reverb-drenched guitars.“I was spending a lot of time watching John Daly videos and came across a rendition he does of Dylan’s ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’,” said Lenderman, discussing the reasons behind his reimagining of the song.“Daly’s version includes an extra verse about golfing. My ‘Knockin’ became a staple of the MJ Lenderman & The Wind live set and it felt like a good idea to re-record it professionally.” Check out the track below.‘Knockin’ will appear on an upcoming 7” single, as well as Lenderman’s previous single ‘Rudolph’.

Both tracks come after the band released their debut album ‘Growing Up’ last year.‘Growing Up’ scored a four-star review from NME‘s Mia Hughes, who wrote: “The album’s finest moment is its title track, where, over crunchy Paramore-esque guitars, Lucia weaves a moving narrative of camaraderie and a determination to enjoy this turbulent time in life.

available to pre-order now here.Discussing their comeback, singer and songwriter Greg Ackell said: “The intent on ‘Delaware’ was to reflect that time in our lives, which I think it did accurately.Having considered ‘Delaware’ before embarking on ‘Hard Light’, we wanted to make an honest, reflective album representing who we are now, which is, well, older. I’ve been struggling to find an answer to the question ‘why now?’ What was the catalyst for getting back together after so long?“The best answer I can come up with is this was the first moment in my life since stopping making music that I got curious to hear what Drop Nineteens might sound like now.
