Watch LCD Soundsystem become Guardian Angels for ‘Saturday Night Live’

LCD Soundsystem played Guardian Angels in a skit in the latest episode of Saturday Night Live (February 26).The band were the musical guests on the show, performing ‘Thrills’ and ‘Yr City’s A Sucker’ from their 2005 debut album. They were joined by John Mulaney as host.During the show, they took part in a skit titled “Subway Churro”, in which a man (Andrew Dismukes) surprises everyone by buying a churro in a random subway station. The SNL cast take on spoofs of Broadway hits to express the peculiarities of New York, including why churros are taboo subway snacks, mole people, subway stabbings and strange liquid on the floor.LCD Soundsystem arrive at the end of the sketch, dressed in Guardian Angels’ gear, proclaiming “We’re the Guardian Angels and if you’re looking for a fight, you’ve gotta go through us!”. The Guardian Angels were a volunteer organisation founded in 1979 to combat violence and crime on the New York City Subway system. They’re met by a Jesus lookalike in a beer helmet, who they then serenade along with the rest of the SNL cast, singing a parody of ‘Superstar’ from Jesus Christ Superstar.

Clairo and Arlo Parks Bring Bedroom Pop to Radio City Music Hall’s Big Stage: Concert Review

Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorThe transition from bedroom pop to one of New York’s biggest stages is not an easy one — the intimate sound and emotions of the loosely defined style are almost the polar opposite of the big gestures and loud volume it takes to fill a major venue. Yet two of the genre’s most popular (and youngest) artists, Clairo and Arlo Parks, did it with ease Thursday night before an impressively full crowd at New York’s historic, 6,000-capacity Radio City Music Hall.Parks, 21 — who is nominated for two 2022 Grammys — is already a major star in her native England and is the more animated performer of the two, although Thursday’s show represented a big step up from her last area performance (at the 650-capacity Music Hall of Williamsburg in September).

Cordae Takes New York City on a Bird’s-Eye View: Concert Review

Jordan Moreau Cordae helped heat up a frigid New York City on Sunday night with a blend of fiery bars and slow-cooked jams delivered to a packed room at Webster Hall. The 24-year-old rapper is currently in the middle of an international tour for “From a Birds Eye View,” his second studio release and first after the doubly Grammy-nominated “The Lost Boy.” Despite his youth and the ongoing pandemic, the Gen-Z favorite drew a sold-out crowd of mostly high-schoolers and twenty-somethings ready to vibe out to feel-good songs like “Want From Me” and “C Carter,” and to jump around to pumped-up hits like “Broke as Fuck” and “Have Mercy.”Cordae has been building a following for years, first as a member of the rap group YBN and more recently as a solo artist. Though he made some hits alongside founders YBN Nahmir and YBN Almighty Jay, Cordae always seemed destined for more.
