Line of Duty star Martin Compston has revealed the huge amount he paid in taxes in the last eight months as he hit out at a troll who criticised him for 'not paying taxes'.
The troll, known as Eddie, had written in a now deleted post: "Oh the indy (non-taxpaying) Luvvies!"in a tweet about Scots talents Alan Cumming and Martin who both spend a lot of time living Stateside.
Martin couldn't resist responding to the remark and told the poster: "Hey Eddie since last July alone I’ve paid over a quarter of a million pounds to HMRC Cumbernauld."
"I don’t get credit for that it’s what I owe."
He added: "It should earn me the right not to listen to unionist troll p**h every time I’m announced to appear at an event in my home country."
Fans loved his response and one said: "Man pays his dues & uses his celebrity status to do good for people in his home town & elsewhere because he can...the 'Eddie's' on here need to think about that for a minute & ask themselves what they're doing."
Another joked: "HMRC have asked me to collect that money on their behalf. I'll DM my bank details ERM ........... THEIR new bank details."
And someone else said: "You are always welcome to Greenock/Port Glasgow.. it’s home.."
While someone else laughed: "Somebody phone Taggart. There’s been a murda!!"
Gary Tank Commander actor Greg McHugh couldn't help taking the opportunity to pull his pal up saying: "And yet you still owe me £6.80 for that taxi to the NME's in 2012."
Martin responded to Greg: "Was skint after paying for the cleaning products combined with the fine for spewing - was some night but!"
