Dave Grohl confirms he’ll release record as metal band Dream Widow this week

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will release an album of music he recorded as the fictional metal band Dream Widow this week.In the Foo Fighters’ recent comedy-horror film Studio 666, the band hire a mansion in Encino to record their 10th studio album, but Grohl soon becomes possessed by a curse and begins viciously attacking his bandmates.Throughout the film, we learn that decades earlier, the band Dream Widow experienced a similar fate, with the band recording a “lost album” before their frontman murdered the rest of the band. Now, according to Variety, that “lost album” will arrive digitally this Friday (March 25), with a physical release to follow later in the year.Grohl has already released the first single to be lifted from the Dream Widow record, having shared ‘March of the Insane’ last month. The thrash-influenced cut sees Grohl howl lyrics like “Sing in a villainous choir / Join in a chorus of pain,” above blistering, heavily distorted guitar riffs and frenetic drums. It’s not clear how many tracks the record will contain, or what the overall sound will be, but Grohl cited Trouble, Corrosion of Conformity and Kyuss as reference points when speaking to Rolling Stone about the project last month.

Dave Grohl: “When I see fucking Billie Eilish, that’s rock’n’roll to me”

Dave Grohl has praised Billie Eilish for starting what he calls a rock’n’roll “revolution”.The Foo Fighters frontman said in a new interview that rock music is a “different game” now for younger acts but is certainly still relevant, after a line from his band’s new horror-comedy film Studio 666 touched upon the “rock is dead” trope. The Independent quoted a line that Jeff Garlin’s character says in the movie about the current music climate (“Rock’n’roll, it hasn’t been relevant for a long time”).“Well, I think you have to define ‘relevant’,” Grohl responded. “It’s hard for us to say that rock’n’roll is in a rough patch, because we get up on stage and there’ll be thousands of people fucking going bananas and singing along to our songs.”But he acknowledged that there’s been a shift in how rock music is received.

Dave Grohl says he would never leave Foo Fighters to go solo

Dave Grohl has said he would never go solo because he “actually like[s] being in the Foo Fighters“.The frontman is currently busy promoting the band’s new gross-out splatter horror Studio 666, and in a recent interview about the film he talked about never wanting to split from the Foos to go it alone.Describing the new movie, he told Sky News: “The premise is based on a lot of really hilarious rock and roll cliches and stereotypes, right? The lead singer that wants to go solo and is at a creative war with his own band – and some lead singers do exactly that.”He then added: “That’s something I would never wish to do because I actually like being in the Foo Fighters.”Grohl formed Foo Fighters in 1994 as a one-man project following the dissolution of his former band Nirvana. The band have won 12 Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album four times, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.Meanwhile, Grohl told NME in a new interview that he thinks Liam Gallagher is “one of the last remaining rock stars”.Earlier this month, Gallagher released ‘Everything’s Electric’, the first single to be taken from his upcoming new solo album ‘C’MON YOU KNOW’, which is set for release on May 27 and is the follow-up to 2019’s ‘Why Me? Why Not.’.The song was co-written by Foo Fighters frontman Grohl, who also plays drums on the track, and its producer Greg Kurstin.“Unfortunately we didn’t do it in person but I love being in the same room as Liam,” Grohl said of the collaboration. “It’s like putting a fucking quarter in a juke box and just turning it up with that guy.

The drummer’s ideas, meanwhile, he said were “a fucking bit kinky, man”.Elsewhere in the chat with NME, Gallagher hit out at Damon Albarn‘s recent comments about Taylor Swift and declared her to be “fucking cool”.

Watch Dave Grohl fail to name Foo Fighters songs on ‘The Late Late Show With James Corden’

Dave Grohl failed to name Foo Fighters songs during a game on The Late Late Show With James Corden this week. The musician, who was joined on the talk show sofa by actress Hilary Duff, was tasked with guessing which songs the show’s host Corden was attempting to play on keyboard – despite him not knowing how to play the piano.A visibly frustrated Grohl failed to to guess a single song, shouting at one point: “Just play the fucking song, man!” You can watch his attempt at ‘James That Tune’ in the clip below. The first song ended up being Foo Fighters’ ‘Learn to Fly’, while the second tune was ‘My Hero’ – both of which were unrecognisable from their original compositions.Grohl was on the programme to discuss Foo Fighters’ new horror-comedy film Studio 666, which is released in cinemas tomorrow (February 25).The movie follows the bandmembers as they move into a mansion in Encino, California that is “steeped in grisly rock and roll history” to record a new album. Once they’ve arrived, though, Grohl “finds himself grappling with supernatural forces that threaten both the completion of the album and the lives of the band”.

Liam Gallagher has said that his involvement in Kosmic Kyte, the film production company he and his brother Noel set up last year, is to stop Noel from doing “something ridiculous”.Speaking to NME for this week’s Big Read, Liam said that he and his brother are still not on good terms despite co-founding Kosmic Kyte in 2021.Last year the company produced a new documentary, Oasis Knebworth 1996, about the band’s iconic shows in the summer of 1996. Liam told NME that he and his brother didn’t deal with one another directly, and that his involvement in the company is partly in order to counteract his brother’s presence.“I can’t remember the name, but he wanted to call the film something fucking ridiculous.
